DEIS SCOP School Completion Programme (SCP):

DEIS SCOP School Completion Programme is a school based service, working in 10 schools in this area, 7 primary schools and 3 secondary schools.

The main focus of SCP work is to support children and teenagers who find school life challenging. SCP puts programmes in place to support students to attend school on a consistent basis and to participate fully in all aspects of school life so that they remain in education and fulfil their potential.

Katie Burns is the Local Coordinator based in Coláiste Éamann Rís and students here are supported by a project worker who meets a targeted group on a 1-1 basis each week. It is essential that a positive relationship is formed with a guardian and student as the foundation for all other work. Programmes focus on establishing consistent attendance patterns, organisational skills, goal setting, building resilience, managing stress, fostering friendships, self-motivation, responsible decision making, self-esteem work and social and communication skills.

A weekly lunch club is also provided by the project worker to allow students to pop in, interact with peers and feel supported in a safe environment.

In early September, each year, SCP organises a Team Building event for all first years to help them settle into their new school; this activity supports first years in making new friends and getting to know each other in a fun way.

During midterm breaks, Easter and in particular, summer time, DEIS SCOP School Completion Programme provides a great range of holiday activities to which a limited number of students are invited.

We subsidise the cost of the activities and expect commitment from the students who have signed up to attend. These activities include surfing, kayaking, zip-lining and hillwalking, footgolf aquapark and team-building activities.

Katie and the Home School Liaison teacher, Lisa Casey (HSCL) work together to support students and parents of Coláiste Éamann Rís and are available to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your child and their attendance and participation in school life. You may contact Katie and Lisa by email: katie.burns@scp.ie and l.casey@cercork.ie
