Curriculum
Fourth Year
Coláiste Éamann Rís’s Fourth Year offers a dynamic and enriching experience that students consistently describe as one of the most rewarding years of their school journey. This compulsory one-year programme bridges the gap between Junior and Senior Cycle, offering students the space to grow, explore, and prepare for life beyond the classroom.
A key element of Fourth Year is the opportunity to explore a diverse range of subjects through our taster modules. Students will engage with core subjects and also sample modules like Print Journalism, GAA Future Leaders, Mini Company, Junk Kouture, Young Scientist, Podcasting, Yoga, Careers, Politics and Society, Computer Science, Photography and Horticulture, to name but a few. These modules are designed to spark new interests and allow students to try their hand at creative and practical skills.
Fourth Year at Coláiste Éamann Rís also provides students with experiences that they simply do not get in other schools, such as our very successful Prom and Fourth Year Panto. These events provide our students with an opportunity to showcase their talents while also stepping into a world of possibility and wonder.
Work experience is a cornerstone of Fourth Year, with students undertaking two separate placements to gain real-world insights into various professions. This involves opportunities to gain placement with tradespeople, businesses, solicitors, or even event planners. Furthermore, our “Giving Back to the Community” initiative allows students to contribute to society through placements in charity shops, community centres, and environmental projects.
Throughout the year, students can participate in a wide array of events and trips. These include bonding trips, fundraising for causes like the Greater Chernobyl Cause and Darkness into Light, and workshops on topics such as First Aid, Resilience, Mental Health, Barista Training, Self Defence, Water Safety, Driving Experiences and Nutrition talks, along with many others.
Fourth Year at Coláiste Éamann Rís is about more than just academic study; it’s about developing well-rounded individuals who are ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the future. This year allows them to gain the confidence and skills to make informed decisions for Senior Cycle and beyond.
